What we do

Make your day a fantastic, unforgettable experience. Imagine indulging in the solitude and ambience on one of our Hawke’s Bay rivers, casting your line to our wild trout, whilst we assist you in experiencing that exciting tug on the end of your line. Our Guides at Wild Trout Adventures are focused on enabling clients to sight, cast to, hook and land strong and fit Rainbow and Brown Trout. Most of really impressive size. We operate half day, full day and multi day packages. Our packages cover from Up-country to Lowland and we cater for every person interested in Trout fishing. Each package can be tailored to your personal preference or requirements.

Lowland Trout Fishing: Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand

Want less travel time? Less walking? Easy access? And more time on the river, sighting cruising large Rainbows and cunning Browns lurking under willow lined banks, or in the many riffles and runs? Then this package is for you.

Our Lowland excursions are the most popular because our clients usually get to experience high catch rates and lots of action. All Hawke’s Bay rivers provide the perfect opportunity for Lowland Trout fishing, with high densities of trout lying under willow lined banks, in papa shelves, or the many ripples, runs or deep pools. An Angler’s dream!

Mountaineering or endurance skills are not required. There is no need to “go bush” in search of large trout, as with only an average level of fitness, anglers can sight and land a number of trout, averaging 3 to 4 lbs, with many pools offering over the 6lb mark (see our gallery) There is even a chance of encountering super fit and strong large sea run Brown Trout in the lower reaches of our rivers during the Spring months. The fun and challenge of lowland fishing in New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay rivers, is a different experience altogether. You still get to sight and stalk your fish, but the satisfaction and reward lies in perfect presentation.

Our lowland Brown and Rainbow trout don’t spook, but are discerning. However once hooked they are known to put up a frenzied fight. This is where the expertise and local knowledge of Wild trout Adventure Guides, will assist you in acquiring all the techniques and skills necessary in dry fly and nymph fishing, making your day an exciting reality.

Up Country Trout Fishing: Hawke’s Bay New Zealand

Up country fly fishing is a tantalising experience. Trout swim in pristine clear water and around every bend there is the anticipation “that there could be the big one waiting for you”

Hawke’s Bay’s upper river reaches are up with the best in New Zealand. Trout densities are lower but if you have time and enjoy the challenge of up country trout fishing then we can take you to fishing spots with deep pools and runs where you can sight and cast to your fish. Surrounded by New Zealand’s native bush, you can enjoy the challenge of navigating rugged terrain and spotting and hooking into the more elusive Rainbow and Brown trout. Expect one and a half, to two or more hours drive each way. These trips are for the more adventurous, with reasonable levels of fitness and casting ability required.
